From 1929 to 1936, Van Beuren Studios produced a slate of classic cartoons that rivalled the output of competitors Disney, Warner Brothers, and MGM. The influential but now-forgotten animation studio debuted with a series of surreal black-and-white shorts but moved into vibrant color under the stewardship of former Disney animator Burt Gillette, producing vintage segments such as Cubby Bear, Toodle Tales, Rainbow Parade, a retooled Felix the Cat, and the original Tom & Jerry (who appeared as a human duo, rather than a cat and mouse). This third volume of the LOST CARTOONS series presents a collection of forgotten Van Beuren classics in crisply restored versions for a nostalgic look at the dawn of sound animation, including "Parrotville Post-Office," "Ali Baba," "Parrotville Old Folks," "Simple Simon," "Scotty Finds a Home," "The Hunting Season" (aka "Hunters are Coming"), "Merry Kittens," and the original Technicolor versions of "Spinning Mice" and "Picnic Panic."  (12**)
